A new release from France’s Thierry Delabroye, Heuchera ‘Pistache’ is a chartreuse yellow leafed plant that turns more of a light green when in shade.  The thicker leaves of the villosa breeding helps this plant avoid the foliar diseases that the other varieties such as “Lime Rickey’ fall victim to.

Width: 18″

Zone: 4-9

Leaf Color: Yellow Leaves

Flower Color: White

Bloom Time: Late Summer

Heuchera Blackout......Heucheras.com

A selection from Dirk Scheys of Belgium, Heuchera ‘Blackout’ was supposed to be the Heuchera that replaced ‘Obsidian’.  While it didn’t do that, it has become a very popular dark leafed heuchera.  It does get darker in color than Obsidian, and has a glossy leaf, but not quite the sheen of Obsidian.  Don’t let this keep you from adding ‘Blackout’ to your garden, it is very nice.

Height: 18-21″

Width: 12″

Zone: 4-9

Leaf Color: Dark Burgundy/Black

Flower Color: Cream

Bloom Time: Late Spring-Mid Summer

A Ray Brown introduction, Heuchera ‘Crimson Curls’, emerges in the spring with dark burgundy to red leaves with a nice purple underneath.  As the season progresses the leaves add some green.  The real reason to grow this variety is the amazing curl of the leaves.  One of the tightest curls and most unusual textured leaves in the heuchera family.

Zone: 4-9

Leaf Color: Mottled Burgundy

Heuchera Plum Pudding.........Heucheras.com

Heuchera ‘Plum Pudding’ has been one of the top heucheras for many years. Even with all the new varieties constantly coming out, this one still stays in the top ten.  Plum Pudding has a lighter purple foliage than many other heucheras and has a nice silver veining. Great winter interest as the veins really shine but only if kept moist in the winter.

caramel 1

Did you grow Marmalade and just love the color but hate all the fungus and root rot?  Caramel should be a much stronger plant for you and still have all the apricot and orange hues you grew to love.  Leaves come out with a burgundy color and age to an apricot, burnt orange color. Caramel has villosa parentage so it should also be more heat and humidity tolerant than many heucheras. It is a rapid grower and really fills a spot quickly.  It seems to do a little better if you keep it on the dry side, especially when young.  Take advantage of this unique color and blend it with darker heucheras or some lighter colored hostas to bring it out

Heuchera Obsidian ..........Heucheras.com

One of the best if not the best,  heuchera on the market.  Shiny black, this is the heuchera that all dark heucheras compare themselves to.  “As dark as Obsidian” or “better color than Obsidian”.  All have tried but none have matched the beauty of this variety.  The dark color is a fantastic match for plants with lighter foliage.  Our favorite and a must add to your garden.

Heuchera Berrie Smoothie..........Heucheras.com

Heuchera ‘Berry Smoothie’ is a new introduction from Terra Nova that combines the best of both the villosa lines and the americana lines.  A beautiful rose pink leaf emerges in the spring that darkens as the season progresses. Not quite as light purple/rose pink as the original press release photos but still a beautiful addition to your heuchera collection. Like all heucheras you need to watch the water early as to prevent the plant from rotting out so plant them high.

Height: 18″

Width: 18″

Zone: 4-9

Leaf Color: Purple Rose to Rose Pink

Flower Color: White

Bloom Time: Spring

Light: Part Shade to Shade
